BT Redcare is Closing – Here’s What You Need to Know (Before It’s Too Late)

HOW WILL THIS EFFECT YOU:

If you’ve got Redcare alarm monitoring, you might’ve already heard the news, BT is shutting it all down on 1st August 2025.

Yes, really. And if you’re like many of our clients, that’s probably triggered one big question: What does that actually mean for me?

Let me break it down for you, no jargon, no fluff, just what you need to know and do next.

So, What’s Happening?

BT Redcare has been around for years. It’s the system a lot of high-value homes, estates, and businesses have used to link their alarms to a monitoring centre. It was reliable, secure, and most importantly, it kept insurers happy.

But now, BT is closing Redcare for good, as part of their wider plan to switch off the old copper phone lines (PSTN) by 2027.

Here’s the key point:
If your alarm system is still running on any legacy BT Redcare product, Classic, GSM, Secure 2, Secure IP, it will stop working on 1st August 2025. That’s not just a change; it’s a full stop.

Who’s Taking Over?

BT has recommended AddSecure to take over from Redcare, and they’re now fully up and running in the UK. If your system was upgraded recently to Redcare’s Next Generation Portfolio (NGP), good news: you’ll be automatically migrated to AddSecure with no disruption.

If you’re not on NGP yet, don’t panic, but don’t hang about either.

Why It Matters

This isn’t just about alarms, it’s about your insurance.

Most insurers will require a monitored, compliant system. So, if your Redcare stops working and you haven’t upgraded, you could be:
• Unprotected
• Out of compliance
• And worst-case… not covered

For clients with second homes, luxury items, or valuable collections, that’s a risk that just isn’t worth taking.

What Should You Do?

If you’re not sure what system you’ve got, don’t worry, here’s your action plan:

1. Find out what you’re using
Ask your alarm provider if you’re still on Redcare Classic, GSM or any of the Secure models. Or just give us a shout and we’ll help you figure it out.

2. Upgrade to something compliant
There are solid alternatives out there, AddSecure NGP, CSL DualCom are widely recognised by insurers and meet the required NSI and SSAIB standards including others that tick the right boxes for insurers.

3. Act before the rush
We’re already seeing increased demand for upgrades. Installers are getting booked up and costs could climb as we get closer to the cut-off.
